I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. It’s so weird to think we are in an entirely new year, don’t you think?
With a new year comes new goals, and some of them are definitely hair related.
I won’t bore you with my nutrition and fitness goals (my hormones have definitely been out of whack lately and I need to reign those puppies back in), but I do want to fill you in on something MAJOR coming later this month. It became a goal of mine a few months ago to be able to do this, and I’m so excited that the time has finally come!
More on that in just a second (of, if you prefer to skip my yadda yadda, head on down to read Goal #4! I won’t take offense, promise).
Goal #1: Out, Out Bald Spot
As far as topper-wearing goes, this year I’m going to be trying a new attachment technique (sounds fancy!). I’m sure many of you remember how one of the clips on my Noriko Milan was causing quite a bad bald spot.
As much as I tell you how important it is to add more clips around the perimeter so that you can rotate their usage and minimize any damage to your bio hair, I definitely didn’t practice what I preach.
While I wait for my hair to hopefully grow back in that spot, I’m going to try taping in that area.
I’ve heard that tape holds really securely and it’s pretty easy to apply and remove, so I’ll be putting it to the test and reporting on my results.
Goal #2: Spinning the Color Wheel
As my hair continues to thin, I’m realizing wigs are becoming closer and closer to a reality. I bought an AWESOME wig over Thanksgiving weekend (I’ll post about it, soon!) and it made me realize how fun it is to experiment with wigs because they come in so many colors.
With a topper, obviously, you have to get something fairly close to your own color.
But with wigs, any color goes! I tried blonde once before, but would love to try a few different blondes, or maybe a red.
Heck, there’s even a purple ombre wig out there that I’ve been eye-balling.
Why? I don’t know.
I’m not “out” with my hair so why even bother playing around with the colors? I loooooooooove to do it, even if it costs me a few bucks. It’s truly one of the perks of hair loss, getting to try new colors and styles.
I’ll definitely be a topper girl for a long time yet, but want to be realistic that unless I decide to someday bond my hair, wigs are in my future.
I’ve heard that the hair loss typically stablizes in your 30s and then will pick up again as you near menopause. I’m still a long ways away, but, it’s inevitable.
And I’m cool with that.
Goal #3: Human Hair, Do I Dare?
I’m thinking of re-trying human hair this year.
‘Nuff said. 🙂
Ok, on to the fun one…
Goal #4: I Want to Serve You Better
As much as this website is a vehicle for me to talk about my trials and tribulations as they relate to hair loss, I realize as I hear from many of you via email that this is more than just about one person (little ol’ me)—it’s about all of us.
So many of you tell me that before stumbling across Corner of Hope & Mane, you felt like you were truly the only one out there going through this.
How awful is it to feel alone when you are going through something so traumatizing?
I get it, obviously. I’ve been there. And others get it, too.
There are tens of millions of us out there (but I’m probably one of the few loons putting her scalp on display for all the world to see).
This year, I want to bring you all together in an official way.
New year. New friendships. New support.
I’m proud to announce the Corner of Hope & Mane Community, opening in mid January!
Update: The Community is open! Learn more and sign up here.
We’ll have boards for hair loss treatments, wigs and toppers, even a buy/sell page for helper hair. And that’s just the start.
It’s a place for all of us to come together and privately talk about what we’re going through. What solutions we’re trying. How we’re coping.
I’d like to bring on a small group to start (maybe 20 people or so), and these ladies will be influential in shaping the community.
We’ll figure out—together—what you’d like to see in the forums, where you need additional support, and how we can make this the best place to come to for hair loss support.
(As a bonus, you’ll be able to help me make sure everything is functioning properly…so much easier to address tech issues with a smaller group, wink)
The Community is now officialy open – feel free to learn more about it here!
The Community will become my home away from home, and I’m psyched about spending a TON of time in there getting to know you all better. I hope you are as excited about it as I am!
So there you have it, a peek at my New Year’s goals (at least the ones that relate to hair).
What are YOUR hair goals for this year?
